started 19th position finished 3rd. Definitely DoD
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 22 pts · 1y
Last-to-podium in the wet by a driver holding the record for most race starts without a podium. Might be the most DotD of all the DotDs.

DoaD, driver of all days

First podium for him since 2012 for him. so great.
rehydrate5503@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1y
I think you meant first podium for Sauber since 2012.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
Yeah I got it wrong
rehydrate5503@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Super happy for him! Love to see it.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 5 pts · 1y
Hulkenberg's best position in 2012 was 4th.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
Wow. Really good for him
birne@feddit.org · 4 pts · 1y
His first podium ever, not since 2012. He was close in Brasil 2012, but threw it away.

Yeah I got it wrong

Hulk podium today?
Edit: Hulk podium today! In a fucking Sauber!

I'm stabbing a voodoo doll of Hamilton's car rn
Nighed@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 1y
Fastest lap!
Nighed@feddit.uk · 4 pts · 1y
8 seconds to ham, want both on the podium, very conflicted
Worx@lemmynsfw.com · 7 pts · 1y
Easy, we just have an angry Piastri take out Norris then go Hulk for the win, with Hamilton and Stroll on the podium.
Don't dream small
DV8@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Either Norris or Piastri, or both spinning off would also do it.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
6 sec now with lap. should be ok
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
go Hulk!
IndiBrony@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Please don't cock it up Hülk 😭
Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 17 pts · 1y
Man first time seeing Oscar totally pissed. First time seeing Norris winning the British GP and first time seeing Hulk on the podium.
What a race!

This new racing line graphic is cool.

“unluckiest driver” in the world
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 2 pts · 1y
I don't think the quotation marks are needed there. Though today it wasn't really luck. Aston just chose to fuck him while at the same time pulling a strategy masterclass on Stroll. I'd be pissed too.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
true but having a shitty strategy doesn't make you unlucky per say.. I'm surprise no one tried the wet tires
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 5 pts · 1y
It's not even close to wet enough for full wets. Visibility means we will never see them used as they require conditions that are currently considered unraceable.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 1y
ask Max :) what a spin!
Nighed@feddit.uk · 11 pts · 1y
That ling graphic is pretty cool

It's a fantastic innovation, I love it.

love it. keep it simple. I'm sure the swearing police will be on him for the word fuck.

Good Race. Mercedes nowhere. Leclerc struggling (must be the water). Hamilton, Good in P4. The Hulk P3. Papaya fighting to be continued.

DV8@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y
If that isn't a 10 second penalty for Piastri I don't know what is. Even Norris almost crashed into him.
Edit: called it. DC and Palmer are delusional that they think it's fine.
Nighed@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 1y
The problem is that that means nothing, he is so far out front compared to max.
Pardal@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Max did spin after that safety car incident, so the penalty is still fair…
Worx@lemmynsfw.com · 3 pts · 1y
Yeah, but he didn't spin due to Piastri's bad driving though
Nighed@feddit.uk · 1 pts · 1y
Sky commentary says it was done to make max get cold tires, so maybe
DV8@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Commentators have favourites, especially Sky. Even Palmer and DC are still unwilling to admit they're wrong and that Piastri did anything wrong. Which is absurd. If the two cars behind you almost crash into you, you made a mistake.
It's such an obvious unsafe way to drive that nobody could expect him to het away it. Especially because he's not British like Russell.
Nighed@feddit.uk · -1 pts · 1y
I'm saying it needed a bigger penalty too
DV8@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
I literally hope Max has a miracle win, but you can't blame Piastri for that.

Once again the race is paused with a safety car without giving the chance for the teams to use the wets… why do they even make those tyres anyway?

for snowy day :)
alezyn@feddit.org · 8 pts · 1y
Lando getting two trophies and a medal for some reason.
lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1y
That Verstappen spin was wild.
Mad race so far.
Stroll in P3.
birne@feddit.org · 5 pts · 1y
There is also Hülkenberg on P4, who has never been on the podium. 👀
Worx@lemmynsfw.com · 2 pts · 1y
Effective P2 with the new penalty for PiastriNevermind, McLaren are already too far ahead for 10s to matter
lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1y
Slicks seemed to have been a bad gamble. The VSCs ruined all chances of gaining track positions before the next spell of rain.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 1y
It was a worthwhile gamble to take for those who did I think.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
well the F2 earlier try the same and had similar bad luck. It's Britain, it rained

must be the water
hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 1y
Yeah RIP Max with that low downforce setup, McLaren is even stronger on a drying track with their tyre magic (if it stops raining).
And now that it's a confirmed wet race I'm swapping Ferrari for Mercedes in my fantasy team.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 4 pts · 1y
With the amount of downforce these cars generate I bet that slimmed wing is still a net gain around here up until we start nearing the crossover between inters and full wets. And if those are the conditions we won't be racing anyway.
DV8@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
Overtaking on a semi wet track is no small feat. The normal line is quickly going to be a lot faster so as long as he can keep ahead in the first lap, he's looking good to win.
Neither Norris nor Piastri will want to risk slipping off the track and possibly lose 18 points to each other. Either of them risking this past lap 1 would be considered as taking a high risk for a low reward.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 6 pts · 1y
Antonelli needs to live up to his reputation from the junior series as a wet weather bandit. He's in a great spot here as first of the slick runners.
lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 1y
Looks like it's raining again. Hopefully it makes for an interesting race.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 4 pts · 1y
We all do whenever it rains, but instead we get postponed race start until conditions are barely damp enough for inters, with everyone switching to slicks within a couple of laps and no overtaking being possible due to only a single dry line existing.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 6 pts · 1y
and safety car again

Very mature response from Piastri even after Jensen Button asked him again. You could tell he was getting upset then he just stopped talking before he said something really silly. And remembered to congratulate Hülkenburg in the interview and Norris immediately after getting out of the car
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 1y
rain expected in 10 laps
Pringles@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 1y
I think the Norris-Piastri rivalry might produce some fireworks later on this year.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 1y
Oscar did seem quite bitter
SneakyWeasel@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 1y
Yeah, but i don't think he really noticed how much he used for breaking. he lost like 100mph for the break. Crazy

well Hulk is doing well p3 now
lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y
Chaotic start to the race so far!
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 4 pts · 1y
Did anyone see how Hamilton suddenly lost 2 seconds? Was super strange, I didn't see him go off?
Nighed@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 1y
Did the same as PIA on the fun bit (maggots, Becket's?)
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 5 pts · 1y
Ah! There was too much to watch this race, bound to miss something.

DV8@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
I wonder what will happen if a safety car happens now(lap37) and Piastri pits. Will Norris still go for a double stack?
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
ending is going to be interesting
DV8@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
Part of the track is bone dry. I wonder who will put at the end of formation.
Looks like Leclerc and Russell will play with water.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
looks like it is 1 lap safety 1 lap to drive...damn 50 laps to go :)
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
Let's go! rain will play out.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
Damn Norris!
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 1y
Stroll slicing through the field in the wet is a beautiful sight.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
Time for Norris to shine now with that penalty
hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
absolute cinema
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
the real strategy was to put wet tires
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 3 pts · 1y
Antonelli has been so unlucky man. Diffuser damage now through no fault of his own. Surprised they'll even have him try to finish.
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
yeah that's bad he will probably retire early I feel
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
yeah retired
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1y
and safety car again ... 3 or 4 safety car in 15 laps....
Nighed@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 1y
Alonso is losing time.
Coelacanth@feddit.nu · 2 pts · 1y
Unbelievable he's kept it on track though, have you been watching his onboards? Crazy.
Nighed@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 1y
Now looks stable, will see if he can make it work.

Rolling start??
Edit: or just formation
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
Spin for Max!
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
Mercedes and Ferrari are struggling.
Worx@lemmynsfw.com · 2 pts · 1y
Wait, why does Tsunoda get penalised for that? It looked like Bearman drove into him from the onboard replay. Was Tsunoda supposed to brake to let him ahead or something?
cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1y
and Piastri takes the lead
rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
I wish the graphics team would stop putting shit all over the actual racing 😂
SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y
Did you watch the F1 Kids broadcast ?
rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y
I might have the right mental age but nope, regular broadcast! Just too much stuff on the screen! Lines following the cars, nametags on the cars, I don't mind the graphic interface but when it's actually over the racing it's just distracting to me personally!
fodderoh@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y
