It's fucking dumb and even laughable sure, but it's also terrifyingly efficient to pass the message: loyalty > competency, and to establish a core of brown-shirt/SS loyal fascist militia...

And the 'lie detector' is just a myth. Even the inventor knew it didn't 'detect lies'.
