I've been a part of south park communities on facebook, reddit, and others. I think real fans of the show can see past characters they dislike. For me Mr Henky episodes are the worst and I couldn't tolerate Towly until post Tegridy.
I had actually typed out the second post for my evolution of randy series but for some reason when I hit submit it disappeared so I probably wont feel like retyping it until next week.
The reason I'm starting with Randy Marsh is because he's become the most divisive character... and I honestly think that was deliberate and it's genius.
I think south park's controversy is evidence of it's relevance.
Also I created a Canadian group because for the most part I'm only interreacting with lemmy.ca and ignoring other instances.

Literally me. Tegridy made his older episodes feel like less of a dig at stoners.

But for real, I just wanna interact with more Canadians. Plus they way Matt & Tray consistently portray Canadians is hilarious and I can't be the only Canadian who thinks so.

Noooooo lol. The only south park merch I have is a touque. I actually like old Towelie episodes more now that he's been put to good use on Tegridy farms.

I feel so attacked. Other than video games, the only South Park merch I have is the original Towelie towel and a Mr Hankey keychain that hung from my rearview mirror until it faded to a strange green color... now it hangs in my garage.

A Towelie towel is actually pretty cool.
I don't hate the characters. But after re-watching the series 3+ times I generally skip Mr. Henkey episodes. Towelie has grown on me.

Every Christmas I have to watch Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics and Red Sleigh Down. As is tradition.

I can make exceptions for holiday specials. Like I generally skip Treehouse of Horror Simpsons episodes unless it's Halloween where we watch them back to back.
