One way to find out if you’re old is to fall down in front of a crowd. If they laugh at you, you’re still young. If they run to you concerned, you’re getting old.

I think it still works. If you're playing football and the whole crowd gasps when you are tackled, you might want to retire.

Someone else observes that this says more about the crowd. I agree with this. What makes this unwise is that the observation is a shallow one, only "correct" with substandard consideration.
