Is it just not possible to hold these companies accountable for anything?

It's possible, but you need politicians who aren't in their pockets. In other words, get pitchforkin'.

The problem is not the companies per se. It is the whole system designed by companies and politicians to benefit themselves.

Absolute shocker. This has never happened before and is completely unexpected!

I'd argue it's working perfectly within the system that's been designed. It's a completely flawed system, but it works for corporations. Absolutely fucked for society though.

Just make a rule that a company will be taxed on its local revune assuming it made profits equal to it's most profitable "related party". Eg, Adani Ireland has 30% profit, then we assume Adani Australia's revenue includes 30% profit and we tax that.

“Did you think we were going to pay $22billion in tax?”

“We paid $22billion to a lobbying firm who bribed the previous government MP with a pittance to pass legislation that is beneficial to us but detrimental to the Australian People and also the Environment.”

“Also, the lobbying firm is a subsidiary of ours so we can keep the money in the company”
