After having such a symptom with one of my cats, having him spend a week at an emergency vet, and having the vets tell me he probably wouldn't have made it had I taken him a few hours later, I'm going to guess whatever it is is probably quite serious.

Strangely enough, for me, no - though it took a loooong time and a proper urologist to figure it out.
