That's a consequence of being split into two seasons to begin with. The season 1 finale was, narratively, a good place to break for a small time skip, but it required padding out the high school romcom hijinks to stretch out to 12 episodes. If WfM had been a contiguous 24 ep run instead, the season 1 finale could have easily been moved up a few episodes, giving more time later to focus on the greater eco-political situation.

The 2nd season of WFM should've been 6-8 more episodes. The story was overall pretty good, but felt rushed.

It's not as bad as some suits have been done, but the Blitz is up there in my faves and is mainly remembered for "He played piano!"
