Ditching the cracker and the barrel was a good idea, the old logo was way too busy and detailed. I'm sure wanting to be able to have it be lower resolution and printed for cheaper was the reason for the change. But by retaining a few of the distinguishing features of the original it would have been a great change.

So here is the change: comparison of original logo, left has a person and a barrel next to a stylized name Cracker Barrel in a sweeping bean shaped background, on the right just the text with on a yellow background in what I assume is the shape of a barrel with no detail.

Either of these that I made it paint just now would have been far superior by retaining just the smallest additional detail! left original logo altered to just remove the person and barrel, right is new logo but with the bands and lines where the wood of the barrel meets to make the background shape more obvious

The fact that they did a shit job is the main reason for the push back, not just change by itself. They really did a shit job. Also, I really like my version of the new logo with the barrel details, that is all it would have taken!

I hadn't even realized it was a barrel without the details. I thought it was just a background field like Denny's logo has.

I think that I saw it was supposed to be a barrel somewhere. If not, then the new logo is even worse.

I think the original logo is a lot more memorable than any of the other options you presented.

While I agree, the old log doesn't lend itself to modern advertising because there is so much fine detail in the person and the barrel. It doesn't scale well, and they could have gone with keeping the original for the storefront signage and my left example for smaller uses.

It never occurred to me that it’s a cracker and his barrel. Good job making me chuckle.

I've yet to see any evidence that this wasn't a publicity stunt by Cracker Barrel

Any news ... good or bad ... is good news for any business. It's free advertising!

sundray@lemmus.org · 3 pts · 361d

Or vice versa, but either way it's a big win for them it seems.

TMZ was reporting Cracker Barrel lost like 95m in stock value because of this. So is this really good for them?

Also I’m guessing the type of people who eat there are the same type of people who would boycott them for this reason.

That's not what I'd be worried about if I was in Cracker Corporate.

I think the problem is that those people weren't eating their reliably to begin with. The stock enjoyed a 10-pt jump off a 5-pt dip. So somebody in day trading made a bunch of money off fluctuation. But after that, it was just noise on a stock that's been in steady decline since COVID.

Cracker Barrel has been in decline for awhile. It's suffering from the post covid economy like many other restaurant chains. They say there's no such thing as bad publicity but I don't know that it's going to get much better for them in the short term. Much of their base can barely afford food at the grocery store let alone dining out and tipping.

I don’t even eat there so not mad, just another example of every restaurant becoming a sterile, generic copy of itself. Every chain restaurant and fast food joint has lost its personality and they’re all the same now

The only people pissed off about the logo change are the racist bigots that go there after church to be mean to the wait staff.

Lalalalala. I can’t hear you. At least that’s what the racists say. Now if you excuse me, I have to go to TGI Fridays…the nice one….to be mean to the wait staff.

I mean I hated the new Cracker Barrel Logo. Legit made it look like a bank

But why are you angry at people being angry?

sundray@lemmus.org · 2 pts · 360d

I just think it's neat, is all!
