What I don't understand at the end of all this is why they seemingly kept Win 11?

The husband says he has Fedora with KDE on his laptop. Why isnt the conclusion of all this that fits time to switch to Linux on the wife's device?

My guess would be a work reliance on Microsoft Office? In which case this article also perfectly encapsulates why monopplies are terrible.
