This must be modified from the original... Mustn't it?

Without an article this seems to refer to Richard

Especially during this time period, it would likely mean multiple things before genitalia.

“Dick” was a pretty common word for a detective, as in “hiring a private dick.” These comics are probably chock full of humorous uses of “dick.”

For this one specifically, the first place tineye sees it on the internet is on a “forgotten cool” tumblr in 2015, which also doesn’t cite where it came from.

Wow you're such a Dick, that was a great research.

Great insight, thank you. Makes even more sense with detective dick.

I was thinking Dick Tracy.

toynbee@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 335d (2 replies)

I was thinking of Robin.

Yeah if I see "Dick" in a comic, I immediately think Grayson.

toynbee@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 335d

That might get awkward if you read Oglaf.

Unpigged@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 335d

Well he's Richard Tracy, Esquire

“Dick” is archaic American slang for “the truth.” Although as another commenter said, there is an element of “they knew” here, because “dick” meant “penis” before the more innocuous usage came around.

I’m tossing my vote in for “solid dick” which meant “hard truth “ or straight talk.
I feel like this explains the white gap to the right of the text line

I haven't found evidence of this, other than the obviously edited Marvel comics panel, let alone this one.

tuff_wizard@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 314d

What? You think people just go on the internet and tell lies?

Maybe it just means "can you take Richard?".

Who dares wins, my dear.
