This morning on my ride to work, I approached a left turn into a side street. There's a pedestrian waiting at a refuge island to cross in front of me. The car in front of me ignores him and goes.
I stop, because I insist on following right of way laws. Following the law in this situation is the most predictable and therefore safe thing you can do. Plus, though I was on a bike, the biggest problem is with the sense of entitlement drivers have that leads to them presuming right of way when they don't have it.
Anyway, the pedestrian refuses to go. I wave him on, I tell him he has right of way. He says "no I don't". Then a car coming from the other direction who was stopped (for the other car and, presumably, me) starts turning right. No way am I having that. I move forward to block the intersection fully to let the pedestrian go.
Another pedestrian arrives. With the two of them, they eventually go, and then I continue.
But fuck me. I try to follow the law Alby doing something that's both safer and more convenient for this arsehole and all I get in return is spray? Fuck.
There might be some third-party version of Android you could put onto it that'd keep you more up to date? I'm not really sure, as I've never had a phone last that long with a usable battery, so I've never tried.
Seems like your phone is very out of date. You should probably consider upgrading, for security if nothing else. (As in, if your phone is old enough to show the wrong message here, it's probably also not receiving mainline security updates. A correlation, not a causation.)

But I do kinda like the implications of it. The dictionary says tidings just means news, but at least to me it feels like it connotes a greater degree of relevance than "news" alone does. Like "what tidings do you bring‽" seems like a request for "what news that is relevant for me to know?"
I found out the problem. My plan was supposed to renew today but I hadn't updated to my new card. They decided to tell me that this had caused an issue by text at 8am, 30 mins after I left home and started encountering the problem, and presumably more like 8 hours after the problem started…
Eek, I've got no mobile data this morning. No idea why, my plan isn't anywhere near used up. Now relying on QR wifi for my commute. Which I'm pretty sure gives you like 10 MB before it cuts you off for the day.
It's cos a significant majority of the population is on the east coast. 50% in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne alone, before you add the rest of those states. So for economic reasons, it's convenient for the central states to be a bit closer in time to the eastern states.
The bot would be immediately replying to a post a user has just made. I figure in that context, an hour should be more than enough time for the person who posted it to confirm that they've followed the rules.
I suspect most rule violations are probably committed out of ignorance, rather than malice. Most people probably don't read the sidebar.
I wonder if it wouldn't be useful to have a very simple filter. A bot that replies to every post, and asks the user to check if they're following the rule.
Going a step further, the bot could tell the user to downvote the comment if it is following the rule, in which case the bot would delete its own comment. Anything where the OP did not downvote the bot's comment within, say, an hour, gets removed by the bot. Its message could also (optionally) threaten banning the user if the violation is clear. No automated enforcement of that, but if a human reviews it and finds that not only did it break the rule, but it very obviously did and there's no excuse for not knowing it, the human could then follow up with a ban.
Would there be any interest in something like that? Either the whole thing or just the first half? I've had a little experience developing Lemmy bots before and would be interested to try my hand at it.
I'm anti-copyright in general*, and especially in favour of stronger fair use–type laws to allow remixing. But as far as copyright does go, this doesn't actually sound all that egregious to me. The fault lies mostly with the musician that Mumbo Jumbo licensed from, rather than with Warner Chappell themselves. The ideal would probably be that MJ could keep the music up and the licenser would have to pay the entire cost of it to WC. But that's a rather difficult thing to expect.
* sort of... Under capitalism it's absolutely necessary that artists can protect their works in some form to be able to make a living, and I'm not entirely sure how to square that with the idea that artistic expression should be free.
