That can't be right, can it? Toast is crunchy only until it gets wet. After that I doubt it would be possible to build a sub out of it.

I couldn't care less.
If they are found alive they should have to pay for all of the expenses taken in order to find them for doing something so reckless and ill-advised. They did the underwater equivalent of trying to climb Mount Everest without an oxygen tank.
