Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow is a lot cooler, but it's missing ÅÄÖ the black metal letters... 😂

@NickEast_IndieWriter @linguistics @humor@fedigroups.social @humor@lemmy.world @aiop That one is quite cool.

Btw, the German equivalent to that is "Franz jagt im komplett verwahrlosten Taxi quer durch Bayern".

And if you want one with ÄÖÜ and ß in there as well, then it is "Zwölf Boxkämpfer jagen Viktor quer über den großen Sylter Deich".

@NickEast_IndieWriter @linguistics @humor@fedigroups.social @humor@lemmy.world @aiop But the quick brown fox version is also missing the black metal letters....

Which is OK for an English sentence but then we need one with þ, ð and æ.

Quick brown fox is the grammatical equivalent of programmer art, just good enough for the purpose but by rule must be devoid of any aesthetic appeal. Sphynx of black rock is what happens when an actual grammatical poet/artist is hired to dress up the UI.

And why not abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz or qwertzuiopasdfghjklyxcvbnm

blattrules@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 341d (2 replies)

No “y” in the second one.

Do you know what's sillier? Neither sentence contains the entire alphabet. There is no "s" in the first sentence, and no "f" in the second. (And yes - I just scanned both sentences for both.)

nathan@piefed.alphapuggle.dev · 5 pts · 341d

First sentence is supposed to be "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" to contain every letter.

Second sentence actually does contain an F; "Sphinx of black quartz"

anna@conlang.network · 4 pts · 341d

@FesteringFerret @NickEast_IndieWriter @linguistics @humor @humor @aiop Of course the second sentence has an 'f'.

Sphinx of quartz.

normally it's "jumps" not jumped, there is your s, and the e and d are also elsewhere.

phil444@mastodon.org.uk · 1 pts · 255d

@FesteringFerret @NickEast_IndieWriter @linguistics @humor@fedigroups.social @humor@lemmy.world @aiop Isn't it usually "jumps" not "jumped"? There's an "f" in "of" for the second one. Which does look more fun 🙂

They forgot 'jumps'

'Cwm, fjord-bank glyphs vext quiz' is neater.
