Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to enforce the removal of “any and all political ideologies” from Texas streets, warning that cities who do not comply will “face consequences.” Non-standard surface markings, signage and signals that “do not directly support traffic control or safety” are prohibited, according to a Wednesday news release from Abbott’s office.

I'm POSITIVE this will Include Thin Blue Line, Confederate, MAGA and OTHER Right Wing Markings too and NOT just Rainbows! IMAGINE how much of a Snowflake you would HAVE to Be to make a Law removing RAINBOWS! And we KNOW Republicans are NOT Snowflakes!

Where do you see those markings in the streets?
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 0 pts · 335d
Never been to Texas, huh Russki?
Vengefu1Tuna@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 335d
I live in the Fort Worth area and I've honestly never seen anything like this painted on a street. I don't drive many other places besides work though.

Only every day. Do you have an answer to my question or do you typically just immediately resort to personal attacks in any argument?
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 2 pts · 335d
Lol, personal attack.
Trust me, you'll know it when it actually happens.
artyom@piefed.social · -5 pts · 335d
I do know it. I just saw it. I'm gonna take that as a concession that you don't actually have an answer and are here exclusively to troll.
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 2 pts · 335d
Your kind would do that regardless.

Gov. Piss Baby strikes again.

Then they should also remove street signs placed on public property that promote local churches.

Wait until they find out that roads, their design and mandated parking are all expressions of political ideologies.
FigMcLargeHuge@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 336d
If you can explain/figure out how toll roads fit into that I would be happy.
artyom@piefed.social · -5 pts · 336d
Toll roads are usually built because no one will vote for taxes for new roads.
Chozo@fedia.io · 12 pts · 336d
Not in Texas. SH 183's toll road in northern Austin was already entirely paid for by tax dollars. They installed tolls, anyway.
artyom@piefed.social · -4 pts · 336d
I didn't say entirely. I said usually.
prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 336d
Toll roads are built because someone will profit from it, typically at the expense of the taxpayer.
A less good service is provided and investment in a better alternative ignored entirely.

Holy fuck with the acronyms!
Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 335d
They absolutely asked an LLM to create a list of acronyms for them and picked that out of the lineup.
FigMcLargeHuge@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 335d
They didn't even use it correctly. If they are using the F in for, then they left off the T from through and the A in and. SAFETROADRS.

Rip billboards
artyom@piefed.social · -9 pts · 336d
Are they putting billboards on the streets now?
Sam_Bass@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 335d
Does include the old trump signs along interstate 45?
_stranger_@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 335d
How about all the alt right billboards? Is it ok if someone pays them for it?
I'm gonna adopt a highway and paint that shit like rainbow road

At the risk of siding with Gov Pissbaby, I have to agree. Streets are marked for safety. Plenty of other places you can paint your political protest murals.
baronvonj@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 336d
Find me someone who legitimately belives that differently multi-colored stripes aligned with the edges of an intersection on walkable roads (with a sidewalk) are not a crosswalk marker for pedestrian traffic and that they can just ignore pedestrians walking on those stripes.
artyom@piefed.social · -16 pts · 336d
You're right. Why have a crosswalk at all? Consistency in traffic markings isn't important.
barooboodoo@lemmy.zip · 10 pts · 336d
One of the dumbest straw men I've ever heard.
FigMcLargeHuge@sh.itjust.works · -1 pts · 336d
There are codes and standards for traffic signs and markings. You are implying that he made something up to fit his narrative, which he did not.
Side note, this is really starting to wean me off of Lemmy, and was the reason I left reddit. People need to stop and think for a minute before just blindly arguing. Go outside, get some sunlight, watch some clouds move across the sky, touch some grass, and calm the fuck down everyone.
barooboodoo@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 335d
Cool, no one's suggesting we get rid of codes and standards for traffic signs and markers. I guess that's why I said it was a straw man. If you're not too busy touching grass, you can respond to Baron Von J's actual argument which is that nobody is mistaking a rainbow colored crosswalk for anything other than a crosswalk.
If you don't like arguing online maybe try not jumping into the middle of one throwing expletives around?
artyom@piefed.social · -1 pts · 335d
That's literally what's being argued. There are standards for traffic signs and markers, and the gov is just demanding to actually adhere to them. Though his motivation is nefarious, the logic is still sound.
If you want to argue against that, you are arguing for the dissolution of said standards because "they'll figure it out".
This is not complicated.
barooboodoo@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 334d
If anything, the argument is that we'd like to add to traffic signs and markers by making them more visible.
Hmmm that's really weird because according to this study,
So let's see some data from you on how removing the rainbows from crosswalks will "support traffic control or safety".

artyom@piefed.social · -7 pts · 336d
Do you have any arguments, or just personal insults? In what way is that a strawman?
BussyGyatt@feddit.org · 4 pts · 336d
the way you mischaracterized their statement makes it a strawman. the fact you're sucking fascist dick to do it makes it stupid.
artyom@piefed.social · -5 pts · 335d
You should take a long look at yourself if you're going to go around mischaracterizing everyone you come across as "fascist" for absolutely no fucking reason at all...
barooboodoo@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 335d
Did Baron Von J suggest we get rid of crosswalks? No, you made up a stupid argument to knock down and pretend you're right. Hmm wonder if there's a name for that? Guess we'll never know.
artyom@piefed.social · -4 pts · 335d
I didn't make up anything. They suggested painted crosswalks are completely pointless, because everyone knows where the crosswalk is. Then you made up a stupid strawman argument about my argument being a strawman instead of actually addressing the subject at hand.
baronvonj@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 334d
Non I did not suggest that. That's your strawman. I suggested that the color of the paint doesn't matter. Every knows that the stripes painted at the intersection are a crosswalk regardless of what color they are.
