Why is whoever filmed this clearly not able to comprehend that holding the phone sideways would probably be better?
Or is it a compilation of entirely 16:9 content letterboxed into a vertical video?

It was likely posted to a platform like TikTok, where all videos are in portrait. So, the video creator likely had clips in 16:9, but then chained them in the TikTok video editor and that put them into this 9:16 format...
