Bought a new vacuum cleaner.

This thing is stupid powerful. For once, I didn't go cheap. I wanted something, I dunno, nicer. It's especially good for extracting pet hair. Don't have pets, but I am a hairy bastard, so...

I'm not trying to brag: I have a Sebo vacuum cleaner, one of the fancy ones. I'm extremely happy with it. Having a nice vacuum cleaner is absolutely worthwhile.

I've often wondered why americans especially seem so keen of this type of vacuum cleaners. When I think of a vacuum cleaner I think of one like this:

I have both a Miele canister similar to your pic and a cordless Shark Rocket. The Rocket:

is easier to move around the house
has a reusable dust collector that is easy to empty
has reusable filters that just need to be cleaned once a month or so
doesn't get jammed by hair
was somewhere around 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the Miele

Whereas the bulkier and more expensive Miele unit has disposable bags and filters, and the brush head (that I had to buy separately for close to the price of the whole ass Shark vacuum) is constantly jammed and needs to be completely disassembled to clear it.

I got a canister vacuum and never went back. Yes, it does have consumables and I have to clean the beater bar, but it is repairable and it cleans very well.

The ones that don't use consumables are typically consumables themselves.

Yeah, my parents bought this cordless Dyson vacuum and that thing is the cheapest feeling piece of plastic junk I've ever seen. I don't even dare to check how much those things cost.

Most people I know that have the type in the op also have the one in your comment or robot one, and usually live in larger houses with multiple floors. The smaller one gets used for"small jobs", the larger one/robot for weekly cleaning. I live in northern Europe.

Got a Shark cannister vacuum and I love it. Very powerful, easy to clean, and it's my first vacuum with lights on the head which are surprisingly useful.

I had gone to Target with the express mission of bringing home a new vacuum cleaner. I went down the aisle, reading reviews of what they had. This one came out the winner.
