My contribution is NeonXSZ, a 6DOF open-world ARPG by a solo dev. It's been a decade since it released, but IIRC, the dev cited Quake and Diablo as primary inspirations and the game has a native Linux version.
The most terrifying thing we could actually find on Mars? Ruins of an ancient proto-human civilisation that had reached a similar level of technological advancement to our own.
I'm not sure what the route looks like based on your post, so I'm not sure this is relevant, but the problem description is similar to what I have experienced with other VPN setups when MTU was too high on the VPN interface.
I tried to check it out after hearing about how much it has influenced Zaki's work, but I couldn't even get through the first chapter. Just too dark and edgy for me to enjoy. Teenaged me would have loved it, though.

I'd buy a month for $10 once in a while if there are 2-3 games I'm interested in but don't want to commit to a full purchase for.
For $5/mo, I'd probably just subscribe and forget about it until they inevitably start hiking the price up again.
