Throughout the day my left sock slowly rotates around

It must be how I sit because it doesn't happen to my right foot.

Ah yes. The philosopher's sock. Sockrotates.

faintwhenfree@lemmus.org · 32 pts · 70d

Wittiest joke of 2026. Bravo.

goodgame@feddit.uk · 6 pts · 69d

I had holes in mine so I took them to a tailor. "Euripides" he stated, "Eumenides?" I asked.

billwashere@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d

I’m totally using this on my adult children.

Malyca@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 69d

Bravo sir 🤌

oce@jlai.lu · 46 pts · 71d

The skin mites on your left foot socialized and joined forces to shift your sock so they could share the most nourishing parts.
The right foot's ones may be more individualistic.

adarza@piefed.ca · 33 pts · 71d (2 replies)

that's a special feature of hanes socks from walmart.

in_my_honest_opinion@piefed.social · 16 pts · 71d

Self cleaning I see.

FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 70d

I have those same shit socks. Never buying Hanes socks again.

Finally, some dull content!

hactar42@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 70d

When I pointed it out to my wife and she just replied with, "I don't know what you want me to do with that information," I knew it was perfect for this community

Elgenzay@lemmy.ml · 29 pts · 70d (1 reply)

Think you're due for an alignment

DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d

Yeah, it's a combination of toe-in, and negative camber.

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 28 pts · 70d (6 replies)

The sock topologically rotates because it remembers the wash spin cycle and the dryer.

It becomes entangled.

Socks which disappear in the dryer, well, they just do the equivalent of rotating beyond gimbal lock, in hyperdimensional space, of which our reality is merely a 3D shadow.

... the 'quantum spin' theory of 'socks doing somewhat odd things'.

ivanovsky@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 69d (5 replies)

Then explain the right sock, nerdddddddd

Lemminary@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 69d (1 reply)

You mean the anti-sock??

KeenFlame@feddit.nu · 2 pts · 69d

You mean quasi-sock

affiliate@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 68d

Right sock wants to spin the opposite direction so everything cancels out

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 69d

... what right sock?

Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 69d

The right socks spin faster and it’s right side after 12 hrs.

ikidd@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 70d

You need to buy a new foot.

Impractical_Island@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 70d (11 replies)

Just get a new foot so this stops happening. I have some old, discount feet if you want one for cheap. Most are Australian, though I do have some Maltans in here, somewhere.

JustAnotherPodunk@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 69d (3 replies)

Pics? I may be interested, but I need to know if they are quality or not. Gotta make sure I'm not getting scammed.

Impractical_Island@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 69d (2 replies)

Bro, this is the internet. If you want to look at feet, you can do that. Just don't look at kids' feet. That is unacceptable and I will have to contact the authorities, so I'll leave myself a post-it note or some shit.

JustAnotherPodunk@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 66d (1 reply)

It was just a set up for a very played out internet joke. You win some, you lose some I guess. It's all good. No worries.

Impractical_Island@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 66d

Tf is a "joke?"

You kids get into some weird shit, I tell ya

Ah shit, I fucked up guys. Pack it up in the van. Now the battle is lost!

hactar42@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 69d (3 replies)

Since I'm in North America will they route the other direction

Impractical_Island@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 69d (2 replies)

East coast or west coast of North America? Or are you Canadian?

hactar42@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d (1 reply)

US east coast

Impractical_Island@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d

Well that's redundant, but that's where the money is. The fame is on the west coast of North America.

BradleyUffner@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 69d

This is due to the Coriolis effect. In the northern hemisphere the sock rotates clockwise, and in the southern hemisphere it will go counter-clockwise.

Agent641@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 70d

It's actually your foot rotating inside the sock.

Grimy@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 71d (2 replies)

How you walk as well maybe. Get scientific about it and keep a notebook where you track the position and what you were doing at the time.

Tikiporch@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 70d

Your socks don't fit. Your right foot may be slightly bigger or maybe sticky?

Nighed@feddit.uk · 13 pts · 70d (7 replies)

Has the quality of the socks decreased? My last set of those was awful. (Switched to Tesco's workman's socks, last forever)

grueling_spool@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 70d

Anecdotally, every article of Hanes clothing I have ever worn has been of remarkably poor quality.

FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 70d

Can confirm -- i have the same socks and they fucking suck. They started wearing through in like 3 or 4 months. Trying out some Duluth socks.

Dozzi92@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 70d (4 replies)

I'm a dress socks guy, but yes, I have some old socks that were comfortable, the elasticity was perfect. New socks are either stiff, shitty elastic, bad material. I cannot find good ones anywhere, besides one brand in particular. I used to go to express or men's wearhouse and they had great socks (and boxers), and it's like those are t a thing anymore.

Nighed@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 70d

I use Tesco workman's socks (I imagine UK only) and step one underwear - really good, but have been advertising recently, so I don't know if they are enshiterfying.

PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 69d (2 replies)

Boxers from Costco, the 32° COOL brand or whatever, do not disappoint.

Dozzi92@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d (1 reply)

I get kirky boxer briefs and I'm very much satisfied with them. Unfortunately I just went to Costco yesterday, and the odds I remember your suggestion the next time I go are incredibly slim, but maybe I will!

PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 69d

I know that struggle well. 5 years from now you'll remember the tip at a time and a Costco when you can finally use it...only to discover they've been discontinued mere months prior.

Such is life, we tried lol 🤷‍♂️

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 70d

Why would you get them in any other color? I mean, every toe is a different color. That's not going to happen with black or blue socks.

ladicius@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 70d (1 reply)

Your left sock doesn't follow earths rotation.

If you are lost in the woods just follow the direction of your left sock otherwise you'll end up walking in circles. /s

ExperimentalGuy@programming.dev · 8 pts · 70d

There's a small beetle living in your shoe whose sole job is to slightly inconvenience you in any way possible. It has arrived on this method of podiatric torture.

JetpackJackson@feddit.org · 7 pts · 71d (1 reply)

Wait my left sock does this too, whether I wear my orthotic insoles+sneakers or my house slides, I thought I was the only one

hactar42@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 70d

There are dozens two of us

MrJameGumb@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 71d

Buy smaller socks?

Godofdirt@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 70d

Foot rotation syndrome

Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 70d (2 replies)

You may pronate on one side. It could be fixable with orthotics.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 70d

Your left foot is probably slightly smaller than the right, so the sock is looser, and gets twisted.

It's common to have feet of different sizes. There's nearly a half size difference between mine.

Lemminary@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 69d

Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. I know some of these words!

XeroxCool@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 70d

You said "how you sit" which makes me think you're not walking much. Do you rub your feet on the floor, carpet, shoe, other foot, etc? Stimming like that can rotate my socks, but I don't have it happen when walking. I don't exactly rub them in the same way

Bell@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 70d

I have a brand of shorts (Lucky) that I liked so I bought another pair several months later. Both rotate to the left during the day, about an inch and a half. No idea why. No other shorts I own do this. Is there a kinesiologist with a minor in sewing that I could talk to?

betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 70d

Your big toe is laughing at you.

rumba@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 69d

OMG, it's THOSE SOCKS

I have several multipacks of those, and while some of my other socks rotate around some, those light grey hanes with the large red letters will not stay put.

i_dont_want_to@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 70d

Your left foot is a fan of Bonnie Taylor. This is normal.

billwashere@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 69d

Is this inside your shoe or walking around in your sock feet. One of my feet turns out a bit (maybe due to a knee injury when I was a kid) and my sock would do this.
