So as talented as she was, she still had to compete with thousands of MEN, wherever she lived. No matter how talented she might be, she was never going to get a fair break. In fact, the more talented she was, the more her competition would have resented her, and fought her.
So she was destined to remain in her brother's shadow, a footnote in his life story.
My guess is that it was first delivered in a play. There are numerous examples on Shakespeare's works, and I would imagine there are even examples in ancient Greek tragedies.
There were the occasional slave uprisings, but none of them were successful, and the punishment for anything like that was so harsh that it was hard to get support. In addition, the slaves knew that anyone who reported a burgeoning uprising would get handsomely rewarded, so it was almost certain to be reported. Nobody could be trusted.
And it will hurt the people who deserve it the most. The rest of us are already in the toilet, and failing fast, it's hard to make things worse for us. It's the wealthy that have something to lose in an economic downturn.
I used to believe that we should expand SCOTUS to 13 seats. I no longer believe that. Now I believe that we should expand it to 29 seats, with rolling term limits. That way, each president could appoint a few, but they could never appoint enough to rig the entire court.
SCOTUS should be the most stable of our three branches. It should never be manipulated and subverted like the other branches.
The McConnell thing was a dress rehearsal, to see how long they can drag it out.
Beshear really blew it by not announcing a replacement after 30 days of No Show/ No Call. Make the MAGAs sue to stop him, and then they'd have to produce Proof of Life. But Beshear is one of those cowardly polite Democrats, so he went along with a MAGA hoax.
He'll be running for Prez in 2028, and he doesn't stand a chance of getting my support.
