Regardless of the number, the sheer fact that it’s legal for a company to prescribe a physical punishment is insane.
Objection@lemmy.ml · 61 pts · 2d
It's not.
ramble81@lemmy.zip · 18 pts · 2d
Well at least there’s that. Too bad it had to get that far to even be reported.
Objection@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 2d
It's incredibly fucked up for sure.
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 5 pts · 2d
Phew, thank you. So many folks in here not reading the article and making assumptions

Labour laws in China are very poor and this sadly will not yield to much unless this goes more viral
bedwyr@piefed.ca · 23 pts · 2d
China doesn't enforce the laws against their rich.
For instance they banned 6-12's, 6 days a week 12 hour a day factory schedules, (naturally for starvation wages,) but the factories still make them work it and the government doesn't do anything. The law was just so they looked civilized apparently.
It's not a one off either, their companies routinely dump toxic waste in violation of their laws for instance. Half of their workers in some cities aren't residents of those cities, and are illegal there. They can be fired, arrested, beaten up, imprisoned, at any time on their employer's word. Shit is fucked.

Founder of failed Chinese property giant sentenced to life in prison
This happened two weeks ago.
China executed 14 people with assets of at least a billion yuan ($155 million) during the past eight years in its aggressive campaign to root out corruption, according to Changchun-based New Culture News.
Americans simply cannot comprehend this kind of policing.

Uh huh, and I'm sure nobody innocent got reeled in there, right?
AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 1d
I'm sure plenty of innocents get caught up, but that's true in the US too. At least the rich are getting targeted as well.
idiomaddict@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2d
They execute a billionaire every so often, but it’s very inconsistent
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 1d
The government, nor the Companies, will never change, except to get worse. If the workers want a change, they will have to rise up and take it by FORCE. It is literally the ONLY way it will change.
BillyClark@piefed.social · 34 pts · 2d
Is that distinction actually important in China? Most places, it's the company's responsibility to train managers to try to keep them from breaking labor laws.
Sheesh.
drmoose@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 2d
Labor laws are a joke in China and much of Asia too tbh still. For example labor unions and strikes etc. are completely illegal in China.

How wrong to ever be punished physically from a job, tragic basic human rights abuses, part of the unhealthy controlling systems, and bad for humanity.
AviAdi@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 3d
So i Will get paid on the clock to do squats? Hmmm
ech@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 2d
Lots of people get paid to disregard their well-being. Doesn't make it worth it.
AviAdi@lemmy.world · -7 pts · 2d
It's squats chill 😂😂
Quokka@quokk.au · 22 pts · 2d
Haha so funny, just chill!
A poor woman desperate for work nearly died but just chill guys it’s only squats. The hell is wrong with you?
AviAdi@lemmy.world · -11 pts · 2d
Well China is a communist SHITHOLE what do you expect?
Quokka@quokk.au · 14 pts · 2d
You to have a shred of empathy for a person?
AviAdi@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 2d
I do, but this is what happens when people allow their government to be run by commie socialists
Quokka@quokk.au · 7 pts · 2d
Ew what are you a capitalist?
Mulligrubs@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d
I don't like commies either, but you're making us look bad.
You see, this woman isn't a superhero like you, and she can't even rid herself of a single commie socialist. You should fly to China and show them all how it's done.
They will build a statue of you like the Statue of Liberty, and all will look to you and admire your leadership.

Not by any measurable metrics?
Wealthy class running afoul of law, working class getting worse jobs and lower wages every year, private hands owning means of production of 60% of GDP and 80% of employment (USA 85% and 80% respectively)?
Government being against workers union and doing everything they can to stay in power, making sure there is no independent growing political power.
Literally can't find a meaningful difference between this system and USA's?

Does he get paid sick days and disability now?

Just read the article ? the worker is a woman

I would be curious to know how all of this was resolved. It's interesting that her go-to was a Conflict-Resolution TV Show of all places. Probably why this incident is in the news to begin with. Shame they didn't name the program.
Also interesting to see if the local labour inspection unit delivers on any kind of punishment for the employer. I doubt we'll ever see a follow-up published on Lemmy, but I'd be very curious to know the outcome of this case.

Are not muscles supposed to break down and build up when working out?!
CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de · 40 pts · 2d
Yes, but Rhabdomyolysis is too much breakdown.
Part of me wants to say that 200 unweighted squats done in small manageable batches shouldn’t be that bad, but the average office person is in remarkably poor fitness condition, so it’s not implausible.

I slept too hard last night and pray for the sweet release of death, or a new neck.
bedwyr@piefed.ca · 3 pts · 2d
200 is a lot more than it sounds like. Doing 50 at a time is taxing.
Snowclone@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2d
she developed a medical condition where the breakdown is excessive and enters the bloodstream possibly threatening the kidneys, she went on a TV show that helps people sue abusive companies, apparently healthcare in China is also garbage....
MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 2d
Both are so called Superpowers.
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 2 pts · 2d
It is garbage, but at the same time when they hear stories about healthcare in America they assume it's propaganda because it's just that much more garbage.
AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml · 0 pts · 1d
Yes only cost $210 and was told she was fine and to rest. Cheap Chinese knockoff healthcare garbage. How can it be good if it's so cheap?
frongt@lemmy.zip · 11 pts · 3d
Not as described in the article.

Teeney tiny bits over time to allow your body to recover and adapt to create a new baseline.
This was destroy everything to the degree that the damaged tissue contents are now poisoning vital organs and threatening death.
