Battery essentially removes 90% of the issue of matching peaking demand from solar wind and tidal renewable supplies that woukd have required coal/LNG/nuclear/hydro.

They're mountainous. Surely pumped water storage would be better than chemical batteries?

We have a good size pumped storage facility in my state. Pumped water storage can take nearly a decade to build and is disruptive to the environment.
