Trump defies ‘America First’ agenda with Argentina beef plan

https://thehill.com/business/5572249-argentina-beef-trump-controversy/

Trump is breaking from his “America First” trade agenda and feuding with some of his most loyal supporters in a fight over U.S. beef prices.

Trump has centered his economic agenda on reducing the U.S.’s reliance on cheaper foreign products and boosting domestic production of goods and food. But his plan to boost imports of Argentinian beef while urging American suppliers to lower their prices marks a sharp departure from his platform.

The dispute is threatening Trump’s long-standing support from agriculture groups and workers, who stood by the president during his first term despite the backlash they faced from his trade agenda.

Trump was never 'america first'. It's always been 'me first'

Stop buying beef for a few months. Shame them.

Hell, switch to Impossible meat permanently.

Fucks with MAGA farmers and drastically lowers cattle based emissions with one stone.

I think I'd rather have fruits and vegetables than impossible beef. To me it tastes worse than beef or vegetables just being their natural selves.

I read that maybe beyond meat does it better, but haven't bothered to try it.

EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com · 7 pts · 302d

Impossible is much better than Beyond when comparing the ground beef replacements. I can't speak to the rest of their lines though.

This. Also, the production of that garbage is also horrible for the environment.

NikkiDimes@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 302d (2 replies)

Impossible beef has a lower environmental impact compared to beef, using approximately 96% less land, 87% less water, and generating 89% fewer greenhouse gas emis

This comes from the company itself, so I don't know how accurate it is, but I'm curious as to what makes you say it's horrible for the environment? Raising livestock is one of the biggest environmental impactors we have.

EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com · 8 pts · 302d (1 reply)

It's processed, so it automatically has a higher environmental footprint. /s

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 302d

if i reach the top of the food chain (like food, not finance or politics. via eating one of everything edible and a few things that aren't) does that give me the environmental footprint of the entire planet?

just wanting to know for bragging rights.

Y'all can afford beef? I haven't bought beef in 4+ years

All that matters to him is how he can benefit. That’s it. He has no allegiance to anything or anyone other than himself.

It is important to point out the hypocrisy, but I do not care about Trump's America First agenda one bit.

Dasus@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 303d

There's some real well-off cattle owners in Argentina I see that beef at a local butchers as well.

Probably doing beef on the side, as an excuse for all the shipping routes.

Is it defying if he was lying about it the whole time?
