It doesn't matter how much you think you know about guns, you don't check to see if it's loaded.
You try to touch it as little as possible, and let the police handle it.
As a doctor/nurse, you are operating under the hospital's protocols, and you aren't qualified to handle a firearm.
Leave it to the police.
