It's the glycerin. Look at the contents of nearly every protein bar, and glycerin is in the first four ingredients, and man, once you know that, you can taste it, it coats your mouth, it doesn't leave, and it tastes exactly like it sounds.
I don't believe there is such a thing as protein bar manogomy. They will all betray you eventually. For about 30s when I try a new one I feel like Magellan, but then a few more bites, and I feel like despite being hungry I can't finish the thing.
