I'm not sure about this specific location, but I have seen similar structures (including being inside one) as a foreign visitor. There is something quite striking/humbling about large statues or similar structures when they dwarf anything in the area. They definitely give me a more surreal vibe in comparison to natural formations that stand out in similar ways.
I'm originally from St. Louis, although i haven't lived there in 20 years. But anytime i am coming in, that first glance at the Arch makes me feel like i am coming home. Massive monuments make for such a great symbol for a city since they show what the people are capable of achieving.
Who paints it?
Painter1) its your turn! I did it last month!
Painter2) fine, tell my kids I love them and do good by my husband, he likes puppies. He'll remind you about doggie all the time. Specially in bed for whatever reason. Just nod and smile.

Imagine waking up to that as a tourist.

Sendai Daikannon. It is the tallest statue of a goddess in Japan and the tenth-tallest statue in the world, at 100 metres.

That shot from a distance is pretty wild as well, though I appreciate the detail in the closer shot more.
