It's okay to be excited about people that seem to not be assholes in politics, especially now. If he ends up sucking, we will say he sucks at that point.
I've honestly always kind of been in the 'Fuck NYC' camp. Like, there's a dozen other US cities I'd rather go to before even considering NYC, but that view is starting to change, thanks to the people showing up to do the right thing.
