I'mma be honest, I think I'd prefer one thread per test. One per day might be excessive, but one per series leaves the thread kinda languishing outside of my memory by the time the next test comes around.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 239d

True and it needs to be pinned on the home page. Aussies vs Poms. It's our national duty to gloat.

No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 240d

May not be worth it. Series will be over in a couple of days πŸ˜†

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Bloody hell what a spectacular finish! Shame Head couldn't see it through to the finish, but he deserves man of the match IMO. Starc a close second.

No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 265d

Yeah, agree.

Australia don't have a chance to win without Starc, and the other bowlers too.

But you just don't often see innings like that from Head. Strategically, drew first blood from the opposition bowlers, and got the important first win. He may have won the Ashes with that knock.

C'mon Aussies!

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 239d (1 reply)

Geez the English won't be happy about that sixth wicket. Confusion all around. Both teams looked like they were gonna review, when the umpires didn'take a decision…them umpire went straight to 3rd ump without making a call. Then snicko shows more of a smush than a snick, IMO.

No1@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 239d

It's so simple.

Umpires should make a decision. If they aren't sure, then benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman.

If either team doesn't agree, let them review it.

They are making it overly complicated.

No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 265d

England on their knees.

And one of the best Head jobs I've seen.

Game, blouses.

No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 265d (2 replies)

Let's see if any of these clowns have learnt how to bat today.

And that applies to both sides.

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 265d (1 reply)

Apparently not.

Well, Australia hung on longer than expected this morning, and England's first session was better than I'd have hoped for, but this second session...apparently not.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 265d

I saw England 1/60 and had some chores to do. Thought Aussies were done. Check again and they are 5/76. Craaaazy!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Well batted for the ton, Root. Glad the rest of your team don't attempt to bat sensibly like that innings.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 239d

Carey is an absolute gun standing up at the stumps. And he 100% got Smith out.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

I want us to get England out, but don't want us to have to bat tonight πŸ˜†

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

And that's it for Day 2. Feels like Australia should have been a couple of wickets less and in an even better position. That would have set the bowlers up for tomorrow night.

Bad catching from England, but they are still in it. If they can set a target, who knows what the pitch will do if we get to day 4/5.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Most of the Pommy wickets, they've got themselves out.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Helluva run out by Inglis!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 240d

Dammit! I tune in and we lose two quick wickets! I might have to turn it off!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 236d

Ruh-roh.

Lyon injured, Starc on last warning and England need 100 with 3 wickets left.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Australia did well to fight back. And then this 10th wicket partnership happened...

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d (1 reply)

Please keep these cricket threads open during the series. I love reading these comments.

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 266d

100%

Just read this which is exactly the vibe in our office slack channel today https://www.betootaadvocate.com/fuck-the-melbourne-cup-this-first-ball-actually-stops-the-nation/

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

I so lonely.....

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 251d

England have decided to try and tire out the Aussie bowlers by letting them bat for hours lol

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 251d

Onya Scotty!!!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 251d (1 reply)

Aussies in control. Hard to see England scratching together enough runs to challenge the Aussies in their 2nd innings. If we actually need to bat at all.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 250d

Let's goooo!!!!!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 238d (1 reply)

Green, prove me wrong. Get a big score.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 238d

I am disappoint.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d (1 reply)

England collapse to all out for 172.

Poor from England. Good from Starc with 7/52

imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d

And he'll be coming back with a hat trick hanging!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 240d

Some dodgy batting from Australia so far. Wasting a perfect batting pitch.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Runs have dried up for England.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

End of session 2, and the Aussies in a strong position.

Next session will be interesting. Either the Aussies take total control, or the Poms fight their way back in.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 251d

Woohoo. Kicking arse.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d (1 reply)

I said earlier 'Poor from England'

So, all I can say is:

Absolute rubbish from Australia's batsmen. 9/123 is pathetic.

Get rid of these grandpas. I'd rather have young guys failing than these sad old men desperately trying to cling on to glory days from 10 years ago.

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d

Yeah it's an absolutely shocking performance. I don't know that the Ashes are the right time to introduce too many newbies though. They've already got 2 debutantes in this match. Maybe one or at a stretch two more of the batting attack could have been swapped out, because the veteran bowlers were doing fine. But then, the rookie batsman was the weakest of the lot.

Who knows how different it might have played out if Khawaja had been allowed to open. How they allowed that to happen is beyond me. That's shocking team management.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 265d

Head wants to finish it off tonight, apparently.

Testing period before stumps. Don't want England to get into our grandads

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Root playing well. Brook looks dodgy, but is scoring fast.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 250d

Game over. Nearly went twice as long as the first test.

Same result lol

Funny to see Jofra get angry at Smith at the end. Maybe he can take some of that fire to the next test.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

The pitch looks green, but isn't doing too much. England are almost playing sensibly and Root and Crawley look to have settled in.

Will be interesting to see what happens under the lights tonight.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

Good first session for the Aussies on Day 2.

Now we have the Ritalin twins in

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

Uhoh! They're changing the ball. The fix is on!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 238d

Didn't matter with Head and Carey sealing the Test

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 240d

This pitch looks like a third day pitch already. Great toss for Australia to win and bat first.

Lyon will clean up the Poms in their 2nd innings. And he might do it in the first as well lol

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 239d

Onya boys πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί All out for 371. Not a bad score.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

Since the English wicketkeeper Smith dropped Head, every time he catches the ball, the crowd are cheering him 🀣

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 253d

Welcome back to the Wollongabba ground as we fire up for the 2nd Test.

And Starc has already sent 2 Poms back to the dressing room!

C'mon Aussie, c'mon!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 239d

Fleming commentating for Channel 7: "The broadcaster chooses the technology, but it's not their fault, and they had to pay for it. And it's the ICC's fault anyways" 🀣

Edit: And apparently Fox chose it and pays for it lol. No wonder it's fucked.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 265d

Head v Stokes with shades of David Hookes v Tony Grieg

Except Hookesy was 18, I think, and on debut

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 251d

We'll see if the Poms have any guts now. Nasty little 20 minutes or so before tea, and then the night session.

Muahahahahaha!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

Not sure Archer bowling a long spell now is the right thing for England here. Better to save him for the night session.

Aussies just happy to leave everything and see him off.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 239d

I've seen enough. There's no way the English will survive Nathan Lyon in the 4th innings.

The English will need a huge 1st innings to have a chance here.

Intruder alert!

🀣

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

I don't really like interrupting people alone in the dark muttering to themselves πŸ˜‚

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d (2 replies)

Not walking when you know you hit it, until after the opposing team has confirmed their decision to review, is a very unsportsmanlike behaviour.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d (1 reply)

I never had a situation where I had to decide whether to walk or not, but I gotta confess, I wouldn't walk. It would balance out all the other dodgy times I was given out, when I wasn't.

When the umpire tells me I'm out, that's when I go.

Zagorath@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 266d

I can basically respect that, at the lower level.

The key difference in representative and professional cricket is DRS. If you get given out when you know you're not, you can review it and have it set right. But if you know you're out with so much confidence that you'd walk the instant the other team reviews it (because you know there's no chance it won't be given not out based on camera angles or anything like that), you shoulda just walked the first time.

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 252d

You would think that Carse was Curtly Ambrose with the way that Green and Carey are backing away from him. Disappointed.

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 236d

One more left. Let's gooooo!

No1@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 240d

Yes, and welcome back to the Adelaide Oval for the Third Test!

Good to have your company.

No1@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 236d

Looks like no Lyons maybe for rest of the series, and no Cummins for Boxing Day.

No1@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 237d

Lyon snagging 3 key wickets in the 4th innings? Who could have predicted that?πŸ˜†

It would be an all time comeback for England to win from here.

No1@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 236d

3-0 yeah! Ashes over!

They got closer than I thought they would.

No1@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 266d

Advantage Aussies after the 1st session 😁

Good bowling from Starc. Not sure what Brook thinks he's doing.
