NOT OC, I ain't owning up to this shit. Maybe c/metalshitposts should exist... I'll stop now I promise. Was looking at memes and was surprised to come across Charlie.

According to metal-archives, Between The Buried And Me isn't metal
The website is useful to spot nazi bands, but otherwise...

Between The Buried And Me is metal? 😅 hoo-boy I don't wanna start that argument, but I'm afraid I have to agree with MA...
EDIT AS OF 10:42 UTC: I know I said I wouldn't but fuck it here goes, not trying to argue like a dick, or gatekeep in any way, just a friendly discussion.
Like imagine the difference between, say, thrash and hardcore punk. To a lamen, some might say they sound quite similar. And yet they aren't even considered the same genre, nevermind sub-genre. Now, the difference between metalcore and traditional metal is one that, to me, is greater than the difference between metal and hardcore punk. So I cannot see how people say metalcore is metal (except in name)?
Metalcore to me sounds rooted in pop, only with distorted guitars and pissed off vocals. Sure, it may have started as metal, many iterations before, but it feel so far removed.
What's your view on this take?

It's ok, you're allowed to be wrong about metal 😉

Hol-up I was in the middle of an edit, would you mind re-reading? Pls?
tatann@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 291d
Also metalcore has been used so poorly it doesn't have any meaning (or at least I just ignore it nowadays), people use it for anything with remote hardcore vibes (even Pantera had hardcore influences through Anselmo), metallic hardcore, or the dreaded "mallcore"
I bet some people would list the mighty SOD as metalcore, since they're a crossover of (thrash) metal and (punk) hardcore 😉

You're still wrong with your edit, but as a fellow metalhead, I'll forgive your awful attempt at gatekeeping metal
serpineslair@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 290d
I explicitly said I WASN'T GATEKEEPING or TRYING TO BE A DICK. But sure. Just trying to have a fruitful discussion.
On another note, you do bring up an interesting topic I may or may not make a post about.

To lazy to edit, but yeah, I'd agree with metalcore, but BTBAM hasn't been metalcore for 20 years.
Maybe it's time to let go old grudges 🙂
serpineslair@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 291d
Well idk about old grudges, I've only been properly in the metal scene since 2021 😉, no hard feelings buddy. But I have listened obsessively every day since. And absorbed as much culture as some do over decades ;) .
