Summit for Lemmy

Howdy Comrades! Just wanted to share this find. Its a well maintained Lemmy client that's only on github and the play store. I recommend installing it through Obtanium using the github releases link on the bottom of the Summit github page. Obtanium will keep monitoring it for updates automatically so you don't need to use the play store version at all.

I like it because it feels smooth, is built on material you and is extremely customizable. I messed with the settings a lot and switched the feed to display as a card instead of a list. It makes it look gorgeous!

If you're not liking your Lemmy client and you tried all of the ones of F-Droid then give this one a shot and check out the settings! Mess around with it and see how gorgeous it can be!

There's one for lemmy, peertube and Mastodon. Go into app settings in the actual system settings and set it to open the links by default. Or better to use link sheet nightly which i also highly recommend. Lemmy is manageable to set it to open all the links by default. But Mastodon has 7000 different instance links you have to set individually. So I setup link sheet nightly. Its as a middleman with links. It'll always ask you which browser to open the link with and if it's a mastodon, peertube or Lemmy link then the redirect app will appear as a native app to open the link with. You can also set it to open links in safer front ends to protect from tracking. By default you can set it to clear any tracking out of the URL as well like with youtube links. Its really neat.

Oh my god it had releases. I didn't read the text, just saw "Get it on Google Play" and noped out. Thanks for pointing out. ( I wonder who install a lemmy client from play store though )

I'm currently using it and it feels great. The UI is smooth and looks beautiful.

Is it open source tho? The Github repository is empty.

TheAgeOfSuperboredom@lemmy.ca · 7 pts · 262d (2 replies)

I believe source is here

SatyrSack@quokk.au · 7 pts · 261d

Why have separate repositories for source and releases?

Xiro@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 262d

Ah thanks, didn't see that.

This is from earlier this year. So yes. Looks like they also changed their mind on not making the source public as well! https://lemmy.world/post/27182706

It doesn't have a license yet.

So very much WIP on the way to becoming FOSS.

Badabinski@kbin.earth · 5 pts · 261d (1 reply)

It does, the repo is tagged as AGPL.
