With NHL free agency on the horizon, it's believed the 2023-24 salary cap ceiling will be set at $83.5M -- an indication the NHL and NHLPA won't negotiate a higher increase than the $1M called for in their MOU.

Wasn’t this year supposed to be a small bump and then next year be pretty huge anyway?

This is such a huge bummer...

Honestly it's surprising it's raising at all given hockey had a pretty lackluster performance. They aren't breaking revenue records despite massive inflation.

Well when your new broadcasting package makes it a nightmare for anyone who doesn't have cable to watch, and then promotes your product about as much as it promotes professional pickle ball, I'm not really to surprised.

Agreed, hopefully it jumps next year. I'd imagine there's more than a couple of teams hurting until that happens.

It's absolutely killed my teams (lightning) chance of going for that third cup with this core. We have been hemorrhaging players for 4 years now and I just don't think we have the depth to fill the cracks anymore.

Screwed by the lockout in 04, screwed by the cap in the '20s. Oh well we had a hell of a run.
