Is that username “Merry Skibidi Miku?”

renzhexiangjiao@piefed.blahaj.zone · 11 pts · 249d (3 replies)

or "Marry Skibidi Miku"

or "Mary Skibidi Miku"

hakase@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 249d (2 replies)

Not quite. "Marry" is usually マリー, and Mary is メアリー. That is to say, Japanese borrowings preserve the "merry, marry, Mary" distinction.

you're right, but in the case of name Mary both メアリー and メリー are possible

example sentences containing メリー

メリー on wikipedia

英語のMary(メアリー)が、米国式発音から日本では「メリー」と読まれることがある。
