I had a feeling James Gunn took a lesson from John Wick. You don't have to make the viewers care about Superman but if Lex kidnaps a super cute dog, everyone is immediately invested.
Guns use people to kill people when they didn't even mean to, or weren't thinking straight. Guns turn acts of despair or foolishness into suicides and murders.
But Gunn doesn't always use guns. Sometimes they're drowned or impaled or eaten
Goddamn this was a good comic. The secondary protag/narrator had an insufferable problem with grandiloquent verbosity, but the writers seemed to figure it out after around the third issue.
Other than that, it’s awesome. The art is special.

Soooo... be aware... Supergirl (2026) is based on this:
No spoilers... but the driving force for Supergirl to get involved is Krypto at risk. I expect there to be a whole page on "doesthedogdie.com".

Krypto was already kidnapped in Superman. He’s been in danger but he’s also a force of nature.

If they kill krypto I will never trust DC and James Gunn again.

You should never have trusted Gunn in the first place.
"Guns don't kill people."
Gunn does.
Like, all the fucking time.
Hoping against hope Krypto survives, because I LOVE him!

You'll note I put that lie in quotes

The writer and artist did another book for Dark Horse that was glorious:
I'm sensing a theme. 😉

I thought the flowery language was because it was a retelling of True Grit

Not gonna lie, I kinda want to see it. I’m not a big Superhero movie guy, but I enjoyed Superman. This looks too be as much or maybe even more fun.
Klear@quokk.au · 5 pts · 246d
Oooh, is that Lobo? Hell yeah!
FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 244d
Not gonna lie, Lobo is the only reason I care to see this at all. After what they did to the Main Man in Krypton he needs redemption!

I just hope Gunn knows what he's doing and is paving the way to the important stuff somewhere down the line - a Section 8 movie.
tatann@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 245d
Well it's either Lobo, or Abbath somehow got incorporated in the DCU
Klear@quokk.au · 3 pts · 245d
I'm fine with either, really.

Why not both?

That film is going to be a disaster. It looks like they used too much AI or CGI or whatever.
