Adventus Day 11

Today's soap has a pretty nice goat milk base. It was easy to make plenty of lather and showed a nice sheen. The scent has a nice strength off the puck and throughout the shave.

Calendar wise this is most of a scooped tub craftily attached to this day's satchel. I also got a sample of Southern Witchcrafts Necromantic. It has a really wild scent. To quote my wife, "Oh hell no. Use that when I'm out of town." :)

Have a good one!

“Oh hell no. Use that when I’m out of town.”

I think we've all heard that at some point. 😂

  • Lather: Proraso - Red - Soap

Coming down with something, so wanted a simple shave this morning. Proraso Red is good stuff, if a little drying.

Get well soon. My wife is still getting over the flu. It's day 8, so hopefully only a little longer. Luckily nobody else in the house got symptoms.

Thanks. I think it’s just a slight cold, hoping it clears up by tomorrow so we can properly celebrate my wife’s birthday.

gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social · 2 pts · 267d

I hope that it is a slight cold as you suspect. Really bad time of year to come down with something.

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Coffee & Cream" w/Declaration Grooming B1 Badger
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (3)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive - Balm

I haven't used the Era in a while, but my buddy mentioned getting rid of his so I had to whip it out. I love this razor so much I'm going to buy his to keep in the family. I don't want it going to some ingrate!

Tomorrow this blade will have 4 shaves on it, matching it to the Personna GEM Platinum Diamond Glide that I have on standby. That'll give me the opportunity to do another side by side shave, maybe a little bit more scientific this time. I'll try to convince my wife to load a blade in each of my Baili BR171 razors so I won't know which is which. Then I'll keep each razor to one side of my face and see which I like best.

That reminds me, did @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social ever reveal the scientific results of his synthetic vs Japanese natural comparison?

He called it, but he never told us which is better

not betting on synthetic superiority though

@walden@wetshav.ing

I called my preference (1 dot over 2), but I don't know yet which is which. I want to try to get my third abalone as close as I can to that edge using my synthetic progression before asking @whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social to reveal which is which

whosgotthepudding@sub.wetshaving.social · 2 pts · 266d

Interesting twist! I like it!

walden@wetshav.ing · 2 pts · 266d (1 reply)

Oh wow, I'm surprised you've held back on wanting to know for this long!

And, uh... 3rd Abalone?!?!

djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social · 2 pts · 263d

And, uh... 3rd Abalone?!?!

Why yes! How else could I do a three-way comparison 😅

When there was the big discount on boker.de, I bought a couple of Abalones in addition to the one I was gifted by the sub in 2023

walden@wetshav.ing · 3 pts · 268d (3 replies)

From what I've heard, it's just personal preference anyway! @gcgallant@wetshav.ing is supposed to send my Koraat back with a nice jnat edge. He liked it a lot though, so I may never see it again.

Two Moarteen is clearly moarer than only one 😃

gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social · 3 pts · 267d

The moar the better!

  • Brush: Elite Razor Honduran Rosewood Burl 24mm HMW Fan
  • Razor: Union Razor Co. 6/8" Full Hollow Round Point
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Amazelnut - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Coconut - Toner
  • Aftershave: Noble Otter - Cerberus - Aftershave

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was a test shave of fresh Arkansas edge on this Union razor. I bought t his razor for $12, so I don't expect a lot. My goal was to have a comfortable edge that has the personality of the Arkansas stone and provides a close shave. Comfort was definitely there in the shave, and closeness exceeded my expectations. I'd say this shave test was a success.
