Speaking as a Texan who thinks Paxton is one of the slimiest ass-skids to ever skulk the face of the earth, his office has been notably aggressive in pursuing an anti-FAANG/big tech agenda for years now.

Is it driven by a cynical PR strategy rather than a genuine interest in civil liberties? Most definitely. But it’s considerably more than a lot of other states have done, and politics makes strange bedfellows.

Texas, like a lot of political entities, is strongly opposed to letting anyone else invade your privacy. They want a monopoly.
