2007 is closer to the fall of the Berlin wall (1989) than to today. That kid looks about 10 in the OP image, which would put him at 28 now, that's actually even older than me, I still grew up with the tail end of CRTs, analog TV, VHS and dial up.
For all we know he's long done with higher ed and he's an industry leader in human resources or something, and is either saving for retirement that will never come or made peace with being soylent chow once the brainrot wars give way to the water wars.
