Holy shitballs Batman! Half my F-Droid apps have updates tonight. Did something happen that required a bunch of critical updates, or it is just the @fdroid team getting a bunch of tasks ticked off all at once?

I can't speak to any F-droid apps specifically but every team I've worked with always tried to push their last update for the year on Wednesday the week before Christmas. Usually still enough developers active to fix any issue that arises and not close enough to eat into most big Christmas activities or weekend plans. Could just be that

I am just happy that the update for the official Peertube app finally hit f-droid today.

@sga

That was about half of them.

Mental note: must donate to Team Fossify. I'm deeply grateful to them for continuing the Simple Apps as un-enshittified Free Code, and I use heaps of them every day. If they had a notes app (ideally one compatible with NextCloud), I'd use that every day too (hint, hint).

@sga
> there is an option to use syncthing for syncing to other devices

Intriguing, is this built into the app itself? I gave SyncThing a solid try and it failed on me pretty badly, in a number of ways. Also didn't the mobile app get abandoned some time ago?

I'll install it and kick the tires at least.

> the notes files are plain text

That's definitely a good feature. Getting this from my existing notes app requires a manual export.

For basic notes, Markor + Syncthing works a treat. I've been using it for years, and never had any issues with it.

I recently switched back to Joplin Notes, largely because of its (upcoming) support for Rocketbook (and other smart notebooks, such as Bambook and Scribzee), and the self-hosted Joplin Server, which lets me offer accounts to friends and family, and share notebooks with them.

It works perfectly, and has the added benefit of E2EE, biometric support, plus the many, many advanced features Joplin offers. There are plenty of other sync options, including file system (for use with Syncthing) and Nextcloud.
