This is mainly meant for being able to hear the person you are conversing with in noisy environments. The video demonstrates the amplification and shows that it can also work over longer distances even though that is not really the main use case advertised.

@Beersux1516@lemmy.zip what do you mean? Isn't a hearing assist feature potentially very useful to lots of people? Everyone can struggle in a noisy environment and not everyone has perfect hearing.

I work in retail, a large number of the people I work with don't speak fluent English, add to that, door dash shoppers that don't speak English. Having a heads up translation and pronunciation guide would be killer!

@shyguyblue@lemmy.world translation is already there with the display glasses. I agree that another piece that is missing for now would be the device helping you with replying in the language.

Auditory processing disorders could be helped immensely by something like this, even partial deafness could be aided by this.

I personally have a hard time hearing and understanding people when there is a lot of background noise, this would be awesome.
