So no, this is not part of being evaluated with other robo-cabs and yes something bad did happen when Tesla ignored the precedent set by Zoox's case and decided to self certify anyway despite NHTSA forcing Zoox to back off from a very similar self-certification.

You can also find plenty of examples of Waymos behaving in a way that human remote controlling them would never be doing. So it's seems very unlikely that these vehicles are some kind of "mechanical turks".

That said, it's always a combination of factors so it is still partly to blame even if we assume it wouldn't have done it alone.

I think what's really going on here is that the sim devs recognized even paid mods are in their interests and didn't go after them. It may have played a factor that they're generally not been these giant devs raking in endless money.

I don't deny these can cause privacy issues as does the ubiquity of small devices with high quality cameras in general but I don't think this law professor really understands the tech very well if she's worried about "nudification" in connection to these.
There's nothing in particular about smartglasses that would enable such a use and they're considerably worse than a regular phone for that in every regard except for the covert picture taking. They completely lack the displays and processing power needed for it unlike, say, a phone.

@Beersux1516@lemmy.zip what do you mean? Isn't a hearing assist feature potentially very useful to lots of people? Everyone can struggle in a noisy environment and not everyone has perfect hearing.

But it does say something if they're drastically cutting the budget and I found Bosworth's statement partially unconvincing since he decided to pretend like it's nothing.
