OpenAI: You rang?

TexasDrunk@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 250d

They already scraped it. Why would they care if it became public domain?

I'm never going to actually watch any of the live action Popeye horror films, but it is funny that we immediately got three of them

Whirling_Ashandarei@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 250d (2 replies)

... I haven't heard of any of them lol wtf? This is real?

Assume all horror movies are Producers style you-make-more-on-a-flop-than-a-hit tax scams.

Zorque@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 250d (1 reply)

Or we could just enjoy them as they are and not try to capitalize on them with low effort garbage.

cecilkorik@piefed.ca · 7 pts · 250d

Capitalism's gonna capitalize. It's what it does.

Oh Betty is 110 years old now, I guess the public should have fair use now, its only fair.

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 250d

Can we not have a battle royale game?

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 250d (1 reply)

After more than a century. That's 4 generations.

How about limiting it to 25 years, 1 generation?

regedit@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 250d

But won't you think of the poor Disney's of the world, ya heartless bastard!

qarbone@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 250d

Best I can do ya is Betty Boop with a chef's knife in the shadows.

We should embrace the bargin bin horror games/movies. The bargin bin is a great step to show people what can be done with public domain characters.

We need people to take risks on their creative takes on public domain characters. Bargin bin media allows people to take those riske with low stakes. Someeone has to get everything started.

I guess not even Disney has the money to extend copyright indefinitely

I think a killer betty boop movie would be great.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 250d

Betty boop detective noir film. That would be good. Make her a badass like Ana de Armas in No Time To Die.

RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com · 3 pts · 250d

I'd like to get some fair use on betty boop if you know what I mean.

sirico@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 250d

But Minnie the Moochers aesthetic is so on point

texture@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 249d (2 replies)

why the heck would i want to see any of these characters in anything that comes out today?

im old, but not old enough to have any desire to see these characters in any way.

AppleTea@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 249d (1 reply)

I'm kinda curious to see how The Public Domain: The Game turns out, though it looks like it's gonna be more about the idea of privately owned ideas in general.

texture@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 249d

"it looks like it's gonna be more about the idea of privately owned ideas in general"

that sounds interesting on its own. i dunno i guess i just find 100 year old characters are just a bit stale.

Looks like Itch is hosting a game jam focusing on public domain woks to celebrate: https://itch.io/jam/gaming-like-its-1930 Maybe something fun will come out of it.
