That's pretty situation dependent. My mom's an evangelical conservative who never took the time to connect with me in a way that was mutually beneficial.
Simply giving birth to someone is no reason of it's own for respect.
But... my mommy's a covert narcissist committing Munchhausen-by-proxy, poisoning me to make herself look like a suffering angel to feed on strangers' empathy and admiration, seeking to maintain power over me, and keep me sick, crippled and dependent on her.
