Mali and Burkina Faso banned Americans a few days ago. What with Maduro's kidnapping, it looks like that decision payed off in more ways than they might have anticipated!

I love this comment. It's like asking an ant to hold back the tide. The fact it's said so unironically makes it better.
ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 230d
The fact that that user recognises themselves as part of the country that has been nothing but a cancer in the world, and dislikes it, is already a lot and should be praised. They overcame the propaganda and used their minds and hearts to examine the world. š

We appreciate it, but it materially doesn't help us outside of the US and it also doesn't help y'all inside either

Better than nothing and much better than the opposite, but that's fair.

US imperialism is a paper tiger. Grow a spine and organise.

No, it's asking an ant to stand up against a bunch of grasshoppers.

Hey brother, this is a fucking ML website correct? So imagine this shit...
MANY ANTS COOPERATE, to take on some grasshoppers.
Jesus fucking christ, american "leftists" are so pathetic.
folaht@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 229d
I'm not sure who you are responding to.
Me or @corsicanguppy.
Corsicanguppy was asked to something.
Corsicanguppy was being defeatist.
I told him to be like the ant against the grassphopper.
You're saying that like ants, they should cooperate.
To that I say, right on! That's the spirit!

No because that is what the orange turd wants in order to achieve complete control of everything
TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 225d
He already has it
HurlingDurling@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 225d
No he doesn't. You still protests, and people having their rights. He wants to declare martial law and with it, congress looses all power, the courts loose all power and he becomes a literal king. Once this happens, all hope will forever be lost
TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 224d
Congress has already lost all power, and the courts are all complicit. Trump is already king. Wake up
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 0 pts · 225d
No? There has never been a legal path to fixing the US Empire, it has always required revolution.
ramenshaman@lemmy.world · -13 pts · 230d
Still hoping votes can make a difference this year. Not ready to Luigi anybody.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 17 pts · 230d
Votes aren't going to do shit for imperialism, that's bipartisan. You also don't need to Luigi people. Instead, you can organize in real life with a socialist party, and if the conditions for revolution arise, take part in that.
Fedizen@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 228d
Luigi is easy to understand. Voting is easy to understand. When people say "organize in real life" what exactly do you mean? Picnics?
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 228d
I mean joining an org like PSL, training and studying as an activist and directly participate in organizing outreach, educating others, forming protests, and more.
folaht@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 230d
Voting doesn't work when the candidate needs campaign money to get voted for.
If the candidate needs campaign money to get voted in, then the candidate will automatically be corrupt,
as no one is going to freely give someone lots of money unless they expect something back from it,
and if candidates need to be on tv and pay good money for being on tv,
then the candidates choices are to be corrupt or to be unknown
and you will need to organize a different system of electing leaders.

I understand this rhetoric, but one extremely effective way of changing peopleās opinions and broadening their world view is travel. Banning people from the US from traveling will only result in more insulation and āotheringā.
That said, American tourists are šthe šworst (I say as an American). We should act like what we are: guests. Iāve had the privilege to travel to five nations that donāt speak English as their native language and have learned my Pās and Qās every time and itās always paid off. I speak the language terribly, but Iām at least willing to try.
LowResBeer@lemmy.ml · 18 pts · 229d
I get where you are coming from, but I think the only way to get through to the goddamned, thick skulled, toddler brained populace of the us, is to take their fucking toys away.
Don't allow them to travel to other countries. Economically sanction them and make burger price go up. For the love of god get the all military and all us bases out of your country.
The us should be shunned and rot in rhe mess they made for themselves while the world builds solidarity and cooperates. Twisted fucks can learn appreciation for the world by experiencing being cut off from it.

Do you say the same for Russians since their leader is engaged in a hostile takeover of a sovereign nation?
LowResBeer@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 229d
Wars should be unequivocally opposed but why don't you check out the wikipedia page for "United States Intervention in Latin America". But hey thata just lat am, why not checkout the page for SE asia, or the middle east, or hell look at all those outstanding promisea you made to ukraine that you love so much.
You might start to see a pattern with the US, that no other country comes even close too. Twisted evil country of psychopaths.

Did some Amercian tourists that had entered Venezuela via official ports of entry kidnap the president of Venezuela? What a weird correlation to draw.
orc_princess@lemmy.ml · 27 pts · 230d
Do you think US spies just walk in and announce themselves as spies? Are you unaware of the long tradition of using US embassies to plan and carry out coups? It may seem extreme but it's not unwarranted considering they just had a coup attempt by a western puppet.
Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 230d
There was also a US spy in Maduro's entourage from what I hear, so totally reasonable.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 7 pts · 230d
Seems that's a PsyOp for now. Be very skeptical of these kinds of claims for the next while, better information will come out confirming or denying it.
Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 230d
Maybe, I heard it on this NYT podcast The Daily.
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/04/podcasts/the-daily/trump-maduro-venezuela.html
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 230d
Yea, if it's from the NYT 99% it's a psyop.
Maeve@kbin.earth · 3 pts · 230d
Tbf I really don't trust any corporate MSM, regardless whether USA or any place else. In fact I'm just about beyond trusting any media, for that matter. None of us knows Jack Smack, unless we get it from each other on the ground in the area, and that's filtered through a personal perception, complete with our own blind spots. But I'll give it a listen later.
Cowbee@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 230d
It's good to distrust, but ultimately we need to develop media literacy and dive into the media to find out what's actually going on. A lot of news is either minimizing or exaggerating real events, so there is usually some truth (though not always, like I think with the NYT bit here).
Maeve@kbin.earth · 1 pts · 230d
