Technical users are laughing their way to the bank on it, though. It's so easy to set up an old htpc for dirt cheap and just use it that way without "smart" functionality.
If you use your TV's smart functions, it's shipping everything you watch, apps you use, and how you do it to their parent companies. There's even some circumstantial evidence that they're monitoring the room and mapping your network, IIRC Vizio was involved in that or maybe LG. The price race to the bottom is to lock up data sharing contracts that pay as much or better than they're discounting the hardware for.
