All taxi drivers atleast where I live use a smartphone navigators now. So they need to remember much less than when there were no navigators or they were not widely used.
Experience is always good, sometimes just experience is already a victory, but you can't fill a stomach with it, and you can't last long only on expirience, unfortunately... :)

I don't know who might want this, but as I wrote in another comment I suspect their real goal is to somehow train “AI” to move in the real world with obstacles on customers hardware for future use for robots or maybe something like that.

Realease only source code if you don't like packaging, just list all dependencies and building method(I prefer Makefile :)). For me it's ok enough.
