This is, of course, for the express purposes of parting fools who listen to too much AM talk radio from their money. Copper is worth, what, a little under $6 a pound right now? So these one ounce ingots that they're hawking for nine bucks each in reality contain about 37 cents worth of metal.
Copper is self-evidently not an investment or speculation vehicle, unless you are able to front the money to deal with it in quantities measured in tons.
For anyone wondering, about a month ago, we got 5.75 / lbs for stripped, and 3.80 for our 8ga thhn (solar panels leads, single conductor in insulation. ) i think Romex was like 3.40ish at the time, but be really use that.

If copper is not valuable, why do you complain when I rip out your phone line and steal the copper? Checkmate liberal

Jest, perhaps. But you can already buy copper bullion for "investment" purposes the same as you can do with gold and silver:

Invest in it by stealing wiring instead. Much lower acquisition cost.

Also people with cabins go crazy for copper decorations so you can make some rich connections.
