I love Cavill, unfortunately his products have a terrible track record.

Unfortunately there is now way this will be worth it. Highlander was great because it had a Frenchman playing a Scott, a Scott playing a Spaniard and Clancy Brown playing one of the greatest villains of all time all set to Queen’s awesome soundtrack.

Every attempt since at this material has been utter dogshit.

"The show"!? While I enjoyed both, I was sure they were referring to the legendary movies!

I find it a bit ironic that you recognize his face. To me I recognize his voice. Once I hear that deep rich voice I know Clancy Brown is in it.

teft@piefed.social · 5 pts · 217d

He does a lot of cartoon voice acting and that’s how i recognize Mr Krabs, too.

Ah, got it!

Clancy Brown is like Tim Curry: No matter what, they will always make it watchable.

I was so enthralled with the superb charter he'd pkayed at the time, I noted who it was and followed him in many of his productions since.

To me his character and the soundtrack are the glue that made the movie. It wasnt until No Country for Old Men and Javier Badem's character that I thought id seen an equally "good" bad guy

A head which at this time has no name. "I know his name!"

I enjoyed the TV series. The Four Horsemen arc was pretty good.

Zorque@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 217d (1 reply)

A Scott playing an Egyptian playing a Spaniard*

IWW4@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 217d

HAHA yes being the peacock that he was!

TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id · 27 pts · 217d (3 replies)

If I don't get to hear a groundbreakingly shit Scottish accent, I'm going to riot.

massive_bereavement@fedia.io · 7 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Aye, but do we also get a Shpanish one?

TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id · 6 pts · 217d

Oh shit, is Daniel Craig available?

WilhelmStroker@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 217d

There can be only one of those.

Lumidaub@feddit.org · 7 pts · 217d (8 replies)

Excuse me, I may be being whooshed here, were the swords ever in question?

leavemealone@sh.itjust.works · 9 pts · 217d (7 replies)

I mean a strong shotgun and then an axe on a downed immortal's neck seems easier to me but you do you.

teft@piefed.social · 7 pts · 217d

Found the mississippian highlander…

Lumidaub@feddit.org · 4 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Okay but. They have swords though.

leavemealone@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 216d

Yeah I would choose efficiency though. Taser, shotgun everything should be a go in a modern tv show. In the old one, the immortal 11 years old kid Kenneth would use anything he could to achieve survival. They always show us that the older immortals have the advantage as they had more time to train anyways, so why would other immortals didn't go with modern weapons I have no idea... For a TV show reboot the question must have been asked by someone in the writer room. Why is sword the meta? It's not really logical.

In kill bill the one who fared the better against the bride was Bud for a good reason. He brought a shotgun to the sword fight

Dresden?

blueduck@piefed.social · 1 pts · 217d

Pretty sure Richie used a train on Mikey

massive_bereavement@fedia.io · 1 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Hear me out: chainswords.

Has anyone else noticed a significant amount of hate for the original Highlander?

I love that shit.

I have a friend that just watched it for the first time and said it sucked. My initial reaction was to punch him in the balls, but I started wondering if I only like it cuz I grew up with it.

Am I crazy? I mean, it's not a best picture contender, but it's fun, right? Clancy Brown plays a fantastic villain. The soundtrack is great. Some solid sword fighting. Decent character development. The scene where she's old and dying is a tearjerker. I can watch it now as an adult and still enjoy it.

Why so much hate?

ArgentRaven@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 216d

I'm a millennial, but only saw it for the first time during COVID. I enjoyed it as a fun movie and would've been real excited as a kid to play Highlander in the backyard with a stick. How can people just now seeing it for the first time not think it's awesome?

Einskjaldi@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 217d

The first movie is great, the tv series is good overall with some great and weak episodes.

Bosht@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 216d

I mean, I'm a millennial and I loved it as a kid and think it still stands up well. I rank it with movies like Venom. Youre not there for a good story just to have a good time.

HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com · 4 pts · 217d (4 replies)

Eh why? The OG is perfect.

Come on hollywood how about some originality?

Mongostein@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 217d

This comment is so played out. If you’re looking for originality Hollywood after the last 20 years, you’re looking in the wrong place.

ace_garp@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 217d (1 reply)

Or... just make a Highlander II.

It's been 40 years without a sequel.

/s

Zorque@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 217d

Nah, they made a TV show, that counts right?

neuromorph@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 217d

Good news. You can still watch rhe OG and ignore thia version

fox2263@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 217d

I’m in

Drusas@fedia.io · 0 pts · 216d (2 replies)

All these nostalgic comments make me wish I had seen the original as an adult. I saw it as a kid and just thought it was bad. No concept of ironic enjoyment.

misk@piefed.social · 2 pts · 216d (1 reply)

The first one is genuinely good. It’s the later ones that require significant amounts of irony and/or drugs.

Drusas@fedia.io · 1 pts · 216d

Maybe it's not too late for me yet.
