This particular filament (Sunlu matte HS PETG) is one of the absolute worst I've ever used WRT being hygroscopic. It arrived so wet that I had literal steam from the extruder the first time I wanted to use it. It took almost 48h in my drier to dry it completely so I could use it. Its been sitting in an airtight box with dessicant for 5 weeks and I needed to dry it for >16h for it to be usable again. The wet part in this print was in the bowden tube between dryer and printer, I restarted the print after took this image.
Sure it prints well at 300mm/s, but it is by no means matte at the temperatures that allow printing it at high speeds, it is actually very glossy. A huge bummer.

I've never seen a PETG that isn't glossy. Maybe this stuff is so hydrophilic that the little time it spends outside whatever storage environment you have allows it to get really wet?

Probably not, I've seen reviews online (after I bought it) that complains about it only printing matte at lower temperatures but then is isn't possible to print fast anymore.

Boo! At that point, I think I'd try to get high-temp PLA if having a matte finish is a priority. What sort of durability are you attempting to achieve with this matte PETG?

I need impact resistance, but more rigidity than TPU can offer.

Why do I feel like I live in a perfect little world where my years old filament prints just fine without any special treatment... Sitting here at 45% humidity in the very wet pacific northwest and my PETG prints just fine. I've never understood it

This is the only PETG I've ever had this issue with, normally I can just store them with dessicant and it's fine.
Right now RH is fairly low around 30-40% because it's cold and winter, summer its usually around 60-80% here.

Its Sunlu HS PETG, relative humidity is a little under 40% in the room (around 25% in the storage box), there's probably about 60-70cm from dryer to extruder. I already purged a good amount before starting the print, but apparently not enough.

I have bought some cheap petg noname stuff which prints without issues at 40% rh in the room.
Another roll transparent petg dont work without drying. Its strange.
Maybe it depends on additives how much water it will get into the material
Very strange.
I see there a lack of information from the manufacturers too. No one specifiy the needed storage conditions

They do state it is more hygroscopic than normal PETG due to additives that allow the fast printing, but this is still significantly worse than I ever expected. I also didn't expect to need to dry it for two days after unwrapping it just to print with it.
