In the original Hans Christian Anderson tale this guy is such a bag of dicks though, he's already married and basically takes on the mermaid as a concubine even though being on land is literally physically traumatizing for her.
For many people in the world (and Lemmy), English is their third, or even fifth, language. An on fire ship makes as much sense as an airship, motorcycle, or sidecar.

Yeah, animated versions of fairy tales are generally nicer, Prince Eric included.

It's iffy grammar, but perfectly workable communication.

policing grammar like that is annoying. especially given that not everyone here is a native English speaker.

a ship on fire?
javasux@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 205d
I was thinking "burning"
"An on fire ship" feels distinctly like a child saying "timesing the numbers" instead of "multiplying the numbers"
IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 205d
that makes sense, they should have said "ship that is burning"
thanks
(messing with you, but I'm assuming that OP is likely not a native English speaker and they are doing their best, and I'm happy to understand them)
