The last of us had naughty dog on board, and the showrunner had just done the amazing Chernobyl.
Jurassic Park was Spielberg, possibly the greatest blockbuster director of all time.
Jk Rowling was heavily involved with the Harry Potter movies including casting.
Not all adaptiations are bad, but when it's a cash in movie or series, it's often those without involvement of the original writer that struggle.
Being involved doesn't have to be the main writer. For instance game of thrones had george rr martin involved but had different writers. It's when they didn't have source material that it went off the rails.

These fucking production companies always think they can do better than the original authors and they never do.

And the last of us show wasn't as good as the game.

It's rare for any adaptation to be better than the source material. Usually the best you'd hope for is as good, or nearly as good but more accessible.

All but 1 of those is pre streaming era and that 1 is highly questionable part of this list

Just a reminder: HBO's about to be owned by Netflix.

On the one hand they will almost certainly not produce a quality show regardless of the source material or who they hire
On the other hand I’m not sure what game devs have to do with making a totally unrelated show set in the same world

Its gonna be super fucking weird if they actually name the show "Baldur's gate 3"...
Waaaaaay more like it's just called "Baldur's Gate", and why Larian pulled off the best story, that "universe" has existed for like 30-40 years.
The game brought it back to the forefront of public attention.
But there's a reason an up and coming studio fresh off a successful IP series sunk a decade into something they don't own the rights too.
They should definitely have brought at least some of the games writers on as consultants tho. But writing a game and show are different.
