I really could've used this when updating my controller to support Switch 2, I had to grab someone's Windows laptop for that lol. Really nice that it exists now.
miss the good days of video games when people just loved games and everything about them.
Eh, that's just nostalgia talking. The internet has always been like this around games. If you opened a forum about games 20 years ago, chances are you'd get called a slur for liking one console over another. I occasionally look at old '90s magazines and you'd be surprised how elitist many of them were back then, too.
It got a visual refresh not too long ago, but this seems to be a lot bigger with some actual gameplay changes like a reworked skill tree and updated combat.
Retroachievements isn't really the right service for this, it was mostly made for consoles that don't have achievements having them added with user-made sets. It doesn't really make sense for them to also be hosting consoles that already come with achievement support.
According to Steam it's also published my Limited Run Games so it's likely going to have a physical release but it will be more of a collectors item that's hard to get after the first batch.
Very nice that this game is coming back in some capacity but I was really hoping for some kind of remake or real remaster. From what I can tell this is the same game packaged and running on an emulator.

I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier. Fighting games are such a crowded market these days. Just these last few months you have 2XKO, Invincible VS, Avatar Legends all flopping hard.
The problem isn't really with the quality of the games, they're decent additions to Xbox's offerings.
The problem is the rate at which they make new games, which is a bit of a disaster. They released THREE GAMES since the studio was founded in 2009 (17 years!!!)
Contrast (2013)
We Happy Few (2018)
South of Midnight (2025)
I wish them the best of luck but out of all the studios Xbox threw away/wanted to shut down, this one was the least surprising, and I said the same thing when they announced the studios they were getting rid of.
Also, it's 100% free to play - you don't even need to own Quake. I totally recommend trying it out, just download the standalone version here.

The link still asks for a login to redeem the gift article, but I'm reading the text you posted now. Thanks :)
It only shows the first 3 paragraphs or so before asking me to subscribe. Ah well, the gameplay drops on youtube a few hours from now anyway.
Anybody have a version of the article that doesn't need signing in?
I'm surprised PixelJunk is still a thing. I haven't played one of these in ~10 years.

October 29.
It's an old story but it got popular when the movie came out in 2005
Narnia's back. Harry potter's back. The Golden Compass is back. The people yearn for rebooted millennial fantasy series, apparently.

Apotris is a super polished and customizable Tetris clone made for the GBA, though it also has native ports to desktops.

There is blood and cursing but it's nothing too extreme to make it R-rated.
Works just fine according to protondb
