I’m really happy with this thing. I was considering getting the RG SP but it was a solid $20-30 more expensive, since it’s the newest model. Meanwhile, good offers were being made for the 34XX-SP which is basically the same device.
Initial impressions:
- The yellow model looks great IRL. It’s less saturated than in the picture.
- 4:3 games are really not that small on the screen, the bezels aren’t an issue like everyone says they are.
- Controls are great, they’re clicky but not annoying or loud. The bumpers are way better than the ones in the RG35XX-H. I’m surprised how much I love the thin D-pad. The only thing I actively dislike is how loud the function button is.

Honestly this is my go-to device now. I’m not bothered by thumbsticks just existing for when I need them on a PlayStation game or the screen being 2 mm lower than center. I don’t get everybody acting like removing the thumbsticks is the best feature of the RG SP.

IMO it's good for the purists. yes, the face buttons are still ABXY, which is not as accurate to the SP, but anbernic did it with the original GBA with the 34xx.

Bezel purists are just loud, is all. Can never appease them.
I'm thinking of getting my first retro handheld and this is in the running. Worried about the screen size so 40xxH is also being considered. pants pocketability isn't a number one factor

Now I love the thumb sticks. I hated them at first but you can make them act as the dpad and use them for single hand playing Pokémon which is really fun. Also the device is powerful enough to play HalfLife and having sticks for this is crucial.

What's the difference between the two models, just computing power ?

They're virtually the same, the only difference is that the RG SP is thinner, centers the screen, and gets rid of the sticks.
